The international conference titled, “The Impacts of Conflict-Induced Forced Migration and Prospective Responses,” was convened by the Centre for International Peace & Stability (CIPS), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in co-operation with Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), Pakistan Office. The overarching aim of the event was to generate discussions and address the underlying predicaments of forced migration spurred by conflict and the perilous circumstances that the displaced communities are detained with.

The gathering was graced with the presence of H.E. Mr. Bernhard Schlagheck, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Pakistan, who was invited as the Chief Guest to the event. Ambassador Schlagheck gave his pertinent insights on the need to elucidate the management issues and socio-economic adaptations regarding conflict-induced displacement. The main theme of the international conference was further categorized into two sessions: the first session, Forced Migration & Management Responses: Analyzing Repatriation, Resettlement and Return of Displaced Populations, addressed the policies and perspectives of the states and international organizations, where the second session, Social Ramifications of Forced Migrations: Analyzing the Responses of Displaced Populations, rather focused on the views and responses of the displaced communities to forced migration.

The international conference brought together speakers with expertise in international and national law, academic backgrounds in migration studies and, in particular, practitioners dealing with refugees and internal displacement. The exceedingly informing convention included eminent guests and speakers: Major General Muhammad Jaffar HI (M) (Retired), Mr. Igor Ivancic (UNHCR), Ambassador Farukh Amil, former Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations (Geneva), Prof. Dr. Martin Sökefeld, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Mr. Md. Kamruzzaman, and others. The deliberates emphasized on the need to arrive at more pragmatic and implementable steps concerning the various manifestations of human migrants.
