About NIPCONS

NIPCONS was established at the NUST Campus, Tamizuddin Road, Rawalpindi Cantonment in December 2009, with an aim to plan / organize the system of education for Army cadets / Young Officers (YOs), compatible with the academic syllabus / standards of NUST. It was mandated to award UG degree of NUST to them (Bachelor of Military Art and Science [BMAS]) on completion of specified syllabus / credit hours. Additionally, the Institute was envisioned to act as a center for excellence in the field of Peace and Conflict Studies, as well as a center for Peacekeeping Training (PKT) for those proceeding on UN peace keeping missions. The Centre for International Peace & Stability (CIPS) was established in February 2013. Since its inception, it has been honoured to a host a range very high profile visitors i.e. the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, who formally inaugurated it on 13 August 2013, the Under Secretary General of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (UNDPKO) Mr Herves Ledsous and Mr Jose Ramos-Horta, former president of Timor Liste, in his current position as the head of a high level delegation representing the UN Secretary General, a two-day international conference on Peace Keeping was held at CIPS in October 2013 which was attended by delegates from USA, UN and India besides Pakistani experts. A seminar was held jointly with the German Peacekeeping School in December 2014. The Centre has been engaged in two parallel activities. It conducts short duration (2- 3 weeks) pre-deployment courses for troops earmarked for UN peacekeeping duties and graduate programs in Peace & Conflict Studies (PCS). In its short history, it has been able to win recognition from Integrated Training Service (ITS) UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (UNDPKO), New York for its military observer course. The Department of Peacekeeping Training (PKT) has till Nov 2019 trained 1851 peacekeepers including 229 foreigners and 70 Female peacekeepers. The training team of peacekeeping training Dept has also participated in the training of fighting units and enablers as part of pre-deployment training. It has so far trained 65 units/ subunits and 30325 personals. The Department of PCS has completed the course work for the first batch of PhD candidates. These candidates have now entered the research phase of their studies. The department has organized an international seminar and a number of lectures by members representing entities of international repute like the Asia Pacific Center for Strategic Studies (APCSS) Hawaii and Near Eastern and South Asia (NESA) Center for Strategic Studies on the subjects of contemporary interests. It has also established formal links with George Mason University, USA. At present NIPCONS is functioning from two Campuses:- a.Rawalpindi Campus b.Islamabad Campus

Welcome to NUST Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (NIPCONS). The institute was established in 2009 to conduct undergraduate programmes in Military Art and Science for Pakistan Army cadets and young officers. Courses in peacekeeping training were introduced after the inauguration of the NUST Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS) by ​Mr. Ban Ki-moon - UN Secretary General, on 13 August 2013. At CIPS, we aspire to be a world class centre of excellence in the academic pursuit of peace. Besides peacekeeping training, it offers doctoral and graduate courses in international peace and stability. We will also be introducing an under graduate programme in the coming years.
